La Mirada~A 22 year-old woman was found dead by family members in her home on Barnwall Street, in La Mirada, early this morning.
Sources say the woman was recently suffering from flu-like symptoms. She died from unknown causes-at this time. She appears to have died in her sleep.
The death is being investigated by homicide detectives from the Sheriff's Department.

Buena Park~The Orangethorpe Avenue on-ramp to the northbound I-5 is closed nightly for the next three months according to the Orange County Transportation Authority.
The work is being done as part of the $325 million Gateway Project. Scheduled to be completed in 2010, the I-5 will be widened form three to five lanes in each direction between the LA County line (La Mirada), and the 91.

Norwalk~Cerritos College’s Liberal Arts Division offers classes in English as a Second Language (ESL) with the start of the Fall semester on Monday, August 17, 2009.
Classes are offered at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels, and are available for $26 per unit (most classes are three units). Several classes are offered during both the day and evening. Most classes meet twice a week and are available during both the 18-week session and the first and second 9-week sessions.
ESL classes at Cerritos College offer:
• Pronunciation • Oral communication • Speaking and listening • Grammar • Reading • Vocabulary • Writing and structure • American expressions and culture • Spelling • Editing
The 18-Week Session: August 17-December 18, 2009; First 9-Week Session: August 17–October 16, 2009; Second 9-Week Session: October 19–December 18, 2009.
Cerritos College is located at 11110 Alondra Blvd., Norwalk, CA 90650. Parking is $1 per day.

La Mirada~La Mirada's National Night Out and Public Safety Fair will be held Aug. 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at La Mirada Regional Park in conjunction with the Concerts Under the Stars.
National Night Out brings residents and law enforcement together to heighten crime and drug prevention and increase participation in local anti-crime programs.
Representatives from the La Mirada Public Safety Team, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Neighborhood Watch will be in attendance. Free kid fingerprinting will also be available.

La Mirada~Watch up and coming international athletes compete at the 2009 North American Challenge Cup hosted at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. The swim meet will feature the next generation of Olympians from August 5 to 7, 2009.
Preliminary heats begin at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. each day of the competition. Swimmers ages 11 to 18 represent the top Olympic prospects from their respective nation
Approximately 350 swimmers from five federations including Canada, Mexico, Pacific (Northern California), Pacific Northwest (Western Washington) and Southern California will compete for the North American Challenge Cup, to be awarded Friday, August 7. |
