La Mirada~In front of its largest crowd of the season, the La Mirada boys basketball team had an incredible victory Wednesday night.

With its playoff lives on the line, the Mats were down 51-45 with a little under three minute left in the game.

The Matadores (13-13, 6-4),  then reeled off  the last 10 points of the game in beating arch rival and co-Suburban League champ, Mayfair 55-51, handing the Monsoons only their second loss of the year.

Conner Gillett scored 24, Michael Davis added nine and Josh Siemens had eight, including two key free-throws and a short jumper at the end, to ice the game for the Mats.

After starting 2-3 in league this campaign the Mats have won four of five. In fact, if it wasn't for a controversial, last-second, touchdown-bomb, buzzer-beating basket by Bellflower on January 29th, the Mats would be on a five game winning streak.

With two games remaining, the Matadores are battling with Norwalk, Cerritos, and Artesia for the final three playoff spots-with 1st place Mayfair seemingly in control of the league.

La Mirada will travel to Cerritos, this Tuesday, February 9th and then wrap up the regular season against Norwalk the following Friday, February 12th, at home.
